Deadline for abstracts Monday 10 August
The fourth Transport Application Cymru conference, held in November 2008 in Aberystwyth, attracted more than 100 practitioners from all parts of Wales and beyond. The feedback from delegates was excellent with all respondents indicating that the Conference exceeded or equalled their expectations. The content of the conference ranged from presentations on the delivery of flagship projects such as improved north-south links via examples of local best practice such as the creation of affordable people friendly streets, to latest developments in transport appraisal. The fifth TAC conference will again focus on results of research, good practice and practical issues of implementation, from anywhere in the UK, relevant to transport planning and delivery in Wales

ACTTravelWise Training Course – Introduction to Workplace Travel planning - Introductory Self Study Pack and One Day Workshop
7th September – Transport for London, 55 Broadway, St. James’s Park
This course provides an introduction to the principles and practice of travel planning for travel plan coordinators and facilities management staff who have responsibility for delivering their organisation’s staff travel plan.
It is aimed at travel planners that are relatively new in their post, or would like to improve their skills and understanding. The course is prepared as a one-day interactive workshop where delegates will work as groups under the supervision of expert trainers. There will also be supporting material provided in a training course pack, which delegates are encouraged to work on in advance of the workshop; we estimate up to 5-hours of study prior to workshop attendance.
For more information see: www.acttravelwise.org or contact Sophie Webber on: 020 7348 1970 or email: sophiew@ptrc-training.co.uk
Wednesday 9 September - Thursday 10 September 2009, Birmingham
The aim of the course is to raise the level of good design for cycle traffic. The course will draw, in part, on the high quality training material prepared for the Transport for London Cycling Design Standards (LCDS), but will also highlight other policies and standards from elsewhere in the UK, particularly Lancashire – the cyclists’ county. The objective of the course is to provide an understanding of the philosophy and principles of good design for cycle traffic, to encourage creativity and innovation in design within legal constraints and to increase the ability to make appropriate decisions when considering cycle traffic.

Tuesday 15 – Thursday 17 September
Manchester
This course, which has established itself as a trusted market leader, is a ‘must’ for any practitioner who may need to give evidence as an expert witness on behalf of a local authority, the private sector or promoter of a development. Simulating the real life speed and pressure of an Inquiry environment, the course provides all the key background knowledge and skills support to help delegates formulate and articulate their arguments – helping them to build on their existing professional experience.
The course is equally applicable to those preparing to appear at an inquiry or at an appeal, and will also give core skills to those who will be involved in LDF/policy or ‘roundtable’ – style hearings
The course is built around a mock inquiry for a major urban extension with its core purpose to develop the skills required in preparing and delivering robust and precise proofs of evidence.
As close as possible to the ‘real-life’ scenario, delegates will also gain experience of the additional pressures imposed by speaking in public and dealing with cross-examination. A unique part of this course is that each delegate will also receive a personal evaluation sheet and suggested development plan within one week of finishing the course, for them to reflect upon personally and to integrate into their professional development plan. Feedback from our last course said that this feature of the training programme was extremely helpful and valuable.
